Iced Peach Sweet Tea

In honor of Father’s Day, this is a super simple recipe that a sweet old lady from my old neighborhood taught me how to make when we moved down to Tennessee.  In true Mila fashion, I put my own spin on it and added *bourbon*.  This drink is sure to please this Father’s Day and you can even add the bourbon to individual glasses to make it friendly for the whole family.

INGREDIENTS

3 cups of Cold Filtered Water

Baking Soda

1 cup of Sugar

4 Tea Bags of Luzianne Tea

1 can of Peaches in Heavy Syrup

3 cups of Boiling Water

Lemon to garnish

Peach slices to garnish

2-3 oz of Bourbon per consumer.

DIRECTIONS

  1. Boil 3 cups of water, pull off the stove once boiled and add your 4 tea bags and a pinch of Baking Soda. Let your tea bags steep for 3 minutes.

  2. While you wait on the tea to steep, add your entire can of peaches with the heavy syrup to a blender and blend until pureed.

  3. In a pitcher, add 3 cups of cold, filtered water. If you’re using a glass pitcher, put a silver spoon in the glass to prevent your pitcher from shattering when you add in the hot tea.

  4. Next, remove your tea bags from the pot of boiling water and pour your 3 cups of steeped tea into the pitcher with the water.

  5. Into a saucepan, add your pureed peaches and 1 cup of Sugar, mix together.

  6. Place your saucepan on the stove, on medium heat, and stir often  until the sugar is completely dissolved. You’ll see the edges start to bubble, this is when you’ll know it’s done.

  7. Pull it off the stove and let it cool down for just a moment and then pour into your pitcher of tea and give it a really good stir.

  8. Fill a glass with ice, pour your sweet tea over the ice and top with 2-3 oz of bourbon and a few peach and lemon slices for garnish.
